Today we celebrate Europe Day. Europe of unity, Europe of universal human values, Europe of economic growth and prosperity. Europe of victory over Nazism and fascism. Europe of victory over war and death.
Created with this vision, the European Union has managed to build a beautiful world on the destructions by World War II.
The European Union continues to stand united and firm in its defense of democracy and peace, guaranteeing fundamental human rights and freedoms.
But today, on Europe Day, the day of peace and democracy, we note with pain that Europe is at war again. Just as it was unthinkable until recently to have a new war in Europe, it is now imperative that we all join forces to keep the peace.
We cannot abandon those values that make us worthy citizens of this earth. We must not forget for a moment that war is ravaging not only cities and villages, it is killing people. The war kills everything human, kills faith and hope in the good and in the future. The war leaves behind only destruction and spiritual emptiness.
Let's keep the peace and democracy. To protect the honor and dignity of every person. And that is possible only in peace. We can do it all together. We are obliged to all those brave and responsible European leaders who have turned their backs on pain, hatred and revanchism, created a strong union, united on the basis of tolerance and solidarity.
I appeal specifically to all members and supporters of the MRF, to all free and active citizens to preserve peace and democracy!
